12×12 Layout – Simple Flower Border “Best Friends”

This layout is my very first attempt at using a cut file background in a scrapbook layout – I have used a simple flower border from UK Scrap Addicts which was released for National Scrapbook Day 2017. I chose a photograph of my Mum and I when I was little.

I decided to stay with a relatively simple layout as I wasn’t really sure what to do with the cut file initially but I’m really happy with how this layout turned out.

I decided to use a dark grey pearlised cardstock from my stash to back the cut file, before adhering a few Petaloo flower embellishments in two of the corners, backed my photograph and journalling onto patterned paper, also from my stash and added Nuvo drops to the centre of each flower.

Lastly, I added a few finishing touches and title “Best Friends” from a sheet of silver glitter thickers from Hobbycraft.

I hope you like this layout and thank you for reading.

Papercrafting Haul from… Lidl, UK

Today I’d like to talk about a recent unexpected purchase I found in an unlikely place.

Dan and I had been out for the day on Saturday and decided to pop into Lidl on our way home as he had been told that they had some tools in stock so we thought it might be worth having a look. We didn’t really find anything in their tool section of any use to Dan but I did get a couple of papercrafting goodies.

The first thing that Dan spotted was a paper trimmer… I have been saying recently how I have been struggling to get new straight blades for my Woodware Fingerguard T200 trimmer recently as it is an older model and not commonly stocked in a lot of places now – we have mentioned looking at replacing it but I wasn’t in any rush but when we saw the paper trimmer Aldi had in stock we were both very interested.

This Crelando paper cutter looked very intriguing so I decided to investigate further… it’s interesting design is more than just a ‘funky looking design’ – the green circle on the end is actually a dial with twelve different blades for straight cuts, decorative cutting patterns, perforating and score lines. Instead of having to change your blade cartridge on your trimmer, you simply select which ‘segment’ of the dial you want, lock it down and away you go. This is far easier than having to keep a box of different blade styles next to your trimmer.

This paper cutter easily fits a twelve inch sheet of paper and rather than having one extending ruler like my Woodware trimmer, it has a fold out ruler on both sides which will make central cuts on a large sheet of paper or cardstock much easier to guarantee a straight cut. Both rulers also have a patterned edge which can be used with either a craft knife or a pencil. The Crelando trimmer also has measurements in both centimetres and inches.

It all looked very promising to me so I decided to find out how much it was – £7.99!!! Can’t you believe it? £7.99 for a paper cutter with TWELVE integrated cutting blades… I’d say that’s a bargain so we decided we were definitely having one and since I got it home and tried it out I can honestly say that I have not been disappointed.

The only down side that I have found to the Crelando paper trimmer is that I cannot see a way of changing the cutting blades but when I take into account that the cost of a single replacement blade for my Woodware paper trimmer averages at £4.00 each, I really do not think that the Crelando is a bad deal. The fact that it is relatively flat rather than having a chunky blade cartridge will also make it easier for crafting at crops, events, etc.

Lidl also had a great range of Crelando paper punches in different sizes, the large punches and the sets of smaller punches were just £4.99 each so I decided to get the large butterfly and large star.

Both of these punches give a lovely intricate cut which are approximately one inch each – a perfect size for any papercrafting needs. They are quite weighty and seem like good quality, they are easy to use and give a good quality cut so I would definitely recommend these too!!

All in all, I definitely think we found some bargains and I would recommend looking in your local Lidl store next time you are passing as you just never know what you’ll find… great products at great prices 🙂

Now I’m off to use my new goodies and have a go at my first scrapbook layout of the day.

Surprise Goodies from Charlie’s Magpie

My most recent happy mail came from the lovely Kathleen at Charlie’s Magpie… such a lovely surprise and lots of gorgeous sparkle in my favourite colours!!

I am really enjoying using the travellers notebook style of planning at the moment so I was over the moon to receive my beautiful Glitterdori and the colour together with the sparkle is beautiful. I’m not a fan of ‘loose glitter’ so the fact that this glitter fabric does not shed is perfect for me as I love the appearance of glitter.

My Glitterdori is in passport size so is perfect for all of my crafty, blog and scrapbooking notes. I love how it has a lovely soft felt lining too.

In my surprise parcel I also received some gorgeous sparkly planner accessories which go so well with my Glitterdori that they are all now in use and sat on my desk next to my pc, in use daily.

If you are looking to expand your planner or planner accessory collection then I would highly recommend popping over to Charlie’s Magpie Etsy store and don’t forget that for all orders over £5.00 you can use my exclusive discount code “CMLAURA10” to save 10% on your order 🙂

The theme for this month is OWLS!!!!

Unfortunately since my subscription box has arrived I have been quite poorly so haven’t yet had the chance to use any of the pretty pieces inside but I will definitely be using them soon – the colours are just so ‘me’ 😀

The design team for Charlie’s Magpie recently received a selection of the stunning new planner clips to test, review and share with our followers.

All items which are currently available for purchase are listed on Charlie’s Magpie Etsy store.

I have decided t share two images of the new planner clips, one with the camera on “no flash” setting and the other “flash on” setting so that you can see the gorgeous array of colours in the glitter fabric which has been used to create these beautiful planner clips.

Happy 2017 To All My Lovelies

Good afternoon all, how is everyone?

Did you all have a good Christmas, festive holiday and New Year?

I would like to start by apologising for my recent absence from the blog – the lead up to Christmas was particularly busy for our business Cards And Candles For All Occasions so I didn’t really have much time for any of the fun journaling, planner or scrapbooking stuff.

Then we spent ten days away with family over Christmas, my Birthday and New Year which was fantastic – lots of R’n’R at Dads house, catching up with friends and family and having time out from our busy lives.

I was full of great intentions for the past ten days before we re-open our business – lots of blog posts that I wanted to write, some art journal techniques to try out and lots of photographs to scrapbook but I was struck down with the winter blues.

Unfortunately, the worst time of year with Fibromyalgia is Winter as the cold and damp really affects my pain levels and to top it off I have had the annoying cold and dry, irritable throat so today although I feel much better I’m doing a great impression of Mrs Sneezy 😅

But enough of the negativity…

It’s a fresh new year, a chance to kick start some new ideas and move onwards and upwards and with that in mind I have lots of ideas to look into for throughout 2017 which I will be sharing with you soon, which will include:

* Brand Representative Postings

* Word Of The Year

* Scrapbook Layouts

* Planner Product Reviews

* Craft Product Reviews

* Planner Shares

and lots, lots more… keep your eyes peeled!! 👀

Well, I’d better crack on with getting something done as I’ve already lost half of the day but I hope you will continue to join me on my Planner, Journal and Scrapbooking journey.

Using Dylusion Ink Sprays In Your Art and Mixed Media

Many of you who enjoy Mixed Media and Art Journaling will no doubt already know about Dyan Reaveley and her range of Dylusions Ink Sprays – these are a very popular medium for many artists and you can create many great effects using them.

One thing which is important to remember when using wet mediums such as Dylusions are which colours compliment each other and which colours will create ‘mud’ or a horrible brown colour when they mix… as Dylusion sprays are not permanent, (they are water based which give you a great opportunity for many wonderful effects) is that it is inevitable that your colours will mix when applied to your surface of choice whether that be paper, cardstock or canvas.

I have now been using Dylusions Ink Sprays for a few months since I began my Art Journaling and Mixed Media journey and throughout this time have been doing lots of research into techniques and colour combinations while following Dyan Reaveley’s incredibly helpful YouTube channel.

One thing in particular I have found very helpful that is suggested by Dyan is to split your ink sprays down into four categories – warm colours, neutral colours, cool colours and purple. These are separated as follows:

Warm Colours
Pure Sunshine
Squeezed Orange
Tangerine Dream
Bubblegum Pink
Funky Fuchsia
Cherry Pie
Postbox Red
Pomegranate Seed
Melted Chocolate
Ground Coffee

Cool Colours
Lemon Zest
Cut Grass
Fresh Lime
Dirty Martini
Chopped Pesto
Polished Jade
Vibrant Turquoise
Calypso Teal
London Blue
After Midnight

You will find that any colour combination within the ‘Warm Colours’ category will compliment each other, the same as any colour combination within the ‘Cool Colours’ category will compliment each other, however if you try to use a Warm and Cool colour together the colours which combine when you spray may end up looking muddy or unpleasant.

Neutral Colours
White Linen
Slate Grey
Black Marble

With regards to ‘Neutral Colours’, these colours are designed to compliment all other colours and generally will look great regardless of which colour you choose to use them alongside.

Crushed Grape

The one colour which often causes confusion with regards to complimentary colours is purple, in the case of the Dylusions colour range this is the ‘Crushed Grape’ which in itself is a beautiful colour however is one which you need to think about before adding to other colours otherwise you can again end up with a muddy looking page.

From my experience and also watching Dyan’s tutorials, information videos and other artists videos I find that the best colours to use alongside purple are the pink and blue tones – these compliment purple really well and can give great effects.

Of course, this list based on information from Dyan Reaveley and by no means does list information mean that you cannot use the opposite colours together… this is purely an advisory post based on the colours which have been found to compliment each other best, however it is all a matter of trial and error and you may find that by using opposite colours together you love the end effect.

Remember, in the world of art journaling, mixed media and crafts there is NO WRONG, it is all about personal choice and personal preference,,, have a play and see which colours you like to work with. Never let anyone tell you that your technique is wrong – we are all learning and developing throughout our journey!

I hope you have found this blog useful and if there is anyone you think this blog could help please feel free to share my blog with them.

Have a wonderful week and happy crafting!!

Happy Planner Layout – Week Commencing 19.09.2016

This week I have used a weekly layout kit from The Plump Planner on Etsy alongside planner header stickers and a weekend banner from Dream Big And Plan on Etsy, this is for week commencing Monday 19th September 2016.

I used the pale blue planner header stickers from Dream Big And Plan to add daily Today and Little Things headers, along with This Week, Personal and To Do in the notes sidebar, finally adding To Buy, To Clean and Don’t Forget Next Week headers to the weekend.

Dream BIg And Plan

I chose to use the “I Found My Unicorn” weekly layout set from The Plump Planner which is a fantastic value kit at just £1.95 for set of 31 stickers spread over two sheets which include full boxes, half boxes and decorative stickers.

Happy Planner Weekly Layout – w/c 12.09.2016

This week in my MAMBI Happy Planner I have used a themed weekly layout kit which was finished with little highlights of washi tape.

The weekly layout kit I have used is the Galaxy/Out Of This World set by Cariad Planning, this set was originally sized for use in Personal-size planners, and as cab be seen here is now also available in Happy Planner size.

This is one of my favourite weekly layouts – I just love the colours and designs, the little quotes and all of the functional stickers… so pretty!!

The quality of these stickers is fantastic, as is the customer service – I would definitely recommend Cariad Planning for unique, pretty planner stickers and accessories 🙂

You can find Cariad Planning on Etsy.
